Coronary Angiography
This is the "gold standard" procedure for assessing coronary artery disease. It will allow the cardiologist to assess the severity and extent of coronary disease. This is helpful in deciding the best treatment for patients. It may mean recommending medication alone, mediation and a stent, or medication and a bypass operation.
Your cardiologist will explain the procedure when you arrange it. Coronary Angiograms must be arranged after a consult with your Cardiologist, who you will need to see to assess your eligibility and to fill out the application form. If it is necessary you do not see the Doctor in person, let our Secretarial staff know and we will make arrangements accordingly.
The results of the test will be discussed with you at the end of the test. A video explaining the procedure is available by following the link below. Generally it is a safe procedure with the risk of a serious complication occurring being approximately 1/1000.
Its important for you to let your doctor know if you are allergic to iodine, are on blood thinners, are diabetic or have kidney disease.
